I would like to start out by saying, I love trying new things that promote healthy living. To begin, I listen to Shawn Stevenson’s podcast and, on one episode he described his morning routine. He said he alternated between hot and cold water showers. This sparked my interested and I began to research the benefits of taking cold showers. What I found out blew my mind, and I realized it cold water could also help me with my natural hair routine. I started alternating my morning shower with hot and cold water. Eventually, on wash day, I washed my hair with cold water. This is when I discovered 3 Reason, you should wash your hair with cold water.
The water was so cold in the beginning and almost intolerable. I quickly noticed how soft my hair became and the detangling process was a breeze. If you have natural hair you know how beneficial this can be. Incidentally, the compliments on the changes in my hair started prompted me to pay close attention to what was actually happening.
Benefits of Washing Your Hair With Cold Water
- My wash and go lasted longer
- Softer hair to make the detangling process easier
- Application of products is much easier
Washing your hair with cold water enables the cuticle layer to lay down and it seals in moisture. As a result, I noticed my hair is softer and easier to detangle. Most importantly, with the cuticle layer laying flat it is easier for the application of the products and I didn’t have to use apply as much product. However, in order to do a really deep clean, in case of product build-up you will need to wash with warm water in the future. So, it is definitely good to wash your hair with cold water if you initially clean and condition with warm water.
I hope the was helpful to you. I love trying out new things and if it will benefit my audience I don’t mind sharing. Check out my post on meditation.
